“Having had COVID-19, I’m living proof that the virus is brutal and can harm very healthy people.”

What are your fears and/or concerns right now?

My children worry that I will get COVID-19 again. Having it has been very isolating and terrifying. It’s been difficult to hear the questions about how I contracted the virus and comments about how the virus really isn’t that bad… how those who eat a plant-based diet, use essential oils, and exercise regularly will be protected from it. All of this is sensationalized. My husband and I worry that our parents who are over 70 will be infected. We’re also concerned that we’ll never be ready to assimilate back into society, in terms of social gatherings and large group events.

What have you learned from living this new normal?

Having had COVID-19, I’m living proof that the virus is brutal and can harm very healthy people. I’m not sure my lungs will ever be the same. As a family, we’ve learned how much we love being together – how a daily mealtime gathered around a table is so important to us. We’ve learned to pray more, watch less news, rely on our intuition, rather than what the media reports – and that life is short. Nurturing relationships is critical to our happiness.

Do you think anything positive will come from all of this?

Hopefully, people will grow closer to their friends and family and develop a greater sense of empathy, fortitude, and love for others.
