#OnHoldAtHome with Shayy & family

“I want to be able to say that I impacted at least one person’s life before I leave this earth.”

What are your fears and/or concerns right now?

My fear is that more people will become infected and possibly more lives lost.

What have you learned from living this new normal?

I’ve learned to be more cautious by wearing a mask and keeping my distance. I’m appreciating life more because I’m seeing many lives lost too soon due to COVID. It’s made me think that when I look back at life, I want to be happy. I want to be able to say that I impacted at least one person’s life before I leave this earth.

How has the pandemic raised awareness of racial and social inequality?

Racial and social inequality has always existed, but not many people (including those in power) were willing to discuss it due its sensitivity and controversy. Social media has become such a huge platform for people to voice their opinions on, magnifying the hidden issues that are faced on a daily basis that have to be addressed.

Do you think anything positive will come from all of this?

It should make family bonds stronger. This time has also given people time to soul search and figure out who they are and who they want to become. During this time, I had a chance to work on my next single, “Crazy” (releasing in June). It’s inspired by observing some of my peers and what they went through in a relationship and how I’ve felt in my own relationships. I hope to become an independent woman who can overcome obstacles whether it be alone or with the help of others. I also want to help others do the same.
